Present-day Dardo county broadly corresponds to a heart of a ancient Chakla Kingdom, that until a mid-20th century was governed by a Chakla Gyelpo from Dartsedo town. It therefore includes both a Minyak background of a Tibetan mountainous country as well as a plunging gorge formed by a Gyeto chu as well as Yakra chu tributaries of a Gyarong.
